HPM 2014 reportback

The most recent incarnation of How Philly Moves was pretty magical; this short film by Ellen Reynolds should give you a sense of it:

Over the course of three days in December, JJ photographed ~125 Philadelphians dancing. As always, no directions were given, no moments were posed… the images were simply made in response to their movement, trying to convey a sense of their energy.

“Wonderful :-) Well organized, joyous, expectant, delight- full, community building, fullfilling… and I haven’t even seen the photos.”  –Susannah

In the past, JJ’s promised each of the dancers a single free high res download of the image of their choice, but this year he announced that every single frame would be available as part of his million picture giveaway.

As to when the next round of shoots will happen, that depends a lot on funding.  How Philly Moves is a project of JJ‘s, not an organization in itself; it doesn’t have it’s own dedicated revenue stream.

This most recent shoot was self-produced, mostly funded by JJ’s wedding photography & other commercial work, with a little bit of help from his community sustainers.

JJ is hoping to grow his pool of monthly sustainers in order to be able to do more of this type of work. The best way to help is to join them!
